Cayo Largo
Privileged by nature, Cayo Largo del Sur has an incredible beauty in its natural environment and marvelous seabed where you can dive to admire it.It is located in the Caribbean Sea, on the easternmost area of the Canarreos archipelago. It is situated 135 km from Nueva Gerona (Isle of Youth), 125 km from Cienfuegos, 177 km from Havana and 177 km from Varadero.
It is the jewel of the Canarreos archipelago and one of the best for diving in its virgin beaches protected by beautiful coral reefs in shallow waters with a variety of flora and fauna species.
Cayo Largo is 37.5 square km and is 25 km long with mostly all beach area. Having a comfortable and modern hotel infrastructure and other offers included in the natural environment preserving the ecosystem, Cayo Largo del Sur combines multicolor flora with surprisingly beautiful sea landscapes. The Turtle hatchery is included within the natural resources conservation and protection plans. Three species of sea turtles are bred: Tortuga Caguama, Tortuga Verde and Tortuga Carey.
The main city closest to Cayo Largo del Suris Nueva Gerona, the capital of the Isle of Youth, founded in 1802 with a predominant eclectic architecture. One of the most important cultural examples of the region is the sucu sucu, a variation of the Cuban son.
Many people also listen to music from English-speaking countries of the Caribbean. This singularity and the presence of Japanese culture characteristics is due to the arrival in the early 20th Century of Jamaican immigrants, North American and Japanese colonists to the island with only descendants found today.
